Something I noticed as a kid

I’ve always been fascinated by this optical phenomenon.

You see, my eyes don’t perceive color the same way. Whether it’s physiological or neurological I don’t really know, but it’s really obvious in bright sunlight, usually in the mid to late afternoon.

My left eye, the one that’s generally dominant, sees everything with a bluish tint. It’s not that things look blue if they’re not; they are just noticeably more blue, as you see in photos taken with the built-in flash on inexpensive cameras. (Some expensive cameras have this trait too, but that’s another topic.) My right eye, on the other hand, has a definite reddish tint, though rather less pronounced than the effect in my left eye.

Next time you’re out in bright sunlight, and particularly if it’s well off to one side, see if you notice anything different about your perception of color in each eye. I have to think that I’m not the only one who ever noticed this.
