Political attacks vs. personal attacks

Instapundit has a nice collection of reflections on Zell Miller’s speech at the Republican convention on Wednesday evening.

Is it fair game to attack a candidate’s political record? Or does that amount to a personal attack on the candidate? Read the links before you answer; the commentators may not change your mind, but will give you pause for thought.
