Instant gratification and extremists

Have we become so used to having what we want, when we want it that we refuse to believe that anybody could be executing plans that take years to unfold?

From Reuters:

The [Bush] administration has been facing tough questions after it became known that some of the information that led to the elevated alert was three years old.

Think about this for a just a moment. Why is it important that the information is three years old? Isn’t 9/11 a perfect example of plans that take a long, long time to play out? So, why couldn’t it happen again? I’m asking both sides of the aisle, here; you liberals that don’t believe that anyone could hate the U.S. that much as well as you conservatives who think that we’ve got this whole “war on terror” thing down cold.

If you want to criticize the administration on something, I’m sure you can find some legitimate issue. However, to say that “old” information shouldn’t have been used as justification to elevate the threat level is worse than myopic, it’s downright lunacy.
