His Excellency Harry Reid wants<\/a> a US Supreme Court judge that is going to unite the nation rather than divide it.<\/p>\n

Am I the only one who thinks that’s, well, idiotic?

\nAllow me to quote Reuters:<\/p>\n

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who had urged Bush to select a nominee who can unite the nation rather than divide it, said, “It remains to be seen whether John Roberts fits that description.”<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

First, a definition, courtesy of the New Oxford American Dictionary:<\/p>\n

judge (n): a public official appointed to decide cases<\/em> in a court of law. (Emphasis mine)<\/p>\n

In other words, a judge separates<\/em> what is lawful from what is unlawful. A judge will divide right from wrong, truth from falsehood, and do so without regard for the opinion of the masses – and that’s how it should be, too. Our courts are not intended to create law.<\/p>\n

Judge Roberts, should you win this appointment, I sincerely hope that you will decide cases based on your convictions and not on the half-baked ramblings of a United States Senator. By all indications I suspect I won’t be disappointed, though.<\/p>\n

Side note to you, gentle reader: I really appreciate that you’re still subscribed to this feed. Quite simply, I had to take a break. My stress level increases when I read about this stuff, and blogging about it causes me to generally stay up too late. This relieves some of the pent up emotion but causes physical stress that’s even more unpleasant. The result? I have stopped reading several blogs entirely because the level of stupidity, while not (quite) as high as I sometimes make it out to be, was akin to the constant drip of a faucet. There’s only so much one man can take…<\/div>\n
