{"id":32,"date":"2005-04-18T21:27:00","date_gmt":"2005-04-19T02:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.clank.org\/blog\/?p=32"},"modified":"2005-04-18T21:27:00","modified_gmt":"2005-04-19T02:27:00","slug":"ten-thousand-channels-but-nothings-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clank.org\/blog\/2005\/04\/18\/ten-thousand-channels-but-nothings-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten thousand channels (but nothing&#8217;s on)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A little while ago I caught my first glimpse at an ad telling me to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.startsomethingpc.com\/\">Start Something<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It was from Microsoft: &#8220;With a world of software and devices that run on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windows.com\/\">Windows<\/a>, you have the power of choice.&#8221;<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nBut, how can I <em>Start Something<\/em> when all I have to choose from is the tens of thousands of absolutely, stunningly <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=craptacular\">craptacular<\/a><\/em> applications and devices built on Windows?<\/p>\n<p>And why is the <a href=\"http:\/\/go.microsoft.com\/fwlink\/?LinkId=46264\">video<\/a> on the Start Something PC site so, um, devoid of actual content?<\/p>\n<p>There may be a few truly great Windows applications that were built to do things that people want to do.
