Visit to the (literally) Frozen Tundra

Since Michelle’s parents were in town for a show at the Weidner Center on Friday, we took the opportunity to get together with them on Saturday morning to visit the renovated Lambeau Field for the first time.

welcome_to_lambeau We thought to take the camera along, fortunately, and the staff was all very explicit that they wanted folks to take pictures. There were a couple of things that I would have liked to see on the tour – say, locker rooms, the national and WTMJ broadcast booths, and grass on the field – but really, these fade into the background when I consider the fact that we sat in the Packers’ private box seats and set foot on the field itself! And yes, I do have photographic evidence.

One thing worthy of note in the photographs is the color of the sky in two of the photos I put online. In the first, a decent view of the north scoreboard from the box, the colors are a bit distorted due to the tinted glass. The later photo from the field shows what an absolutely beautiful day it was, even if it was a bit on the chilly side (about 15F, -9C).

Tickets for the stadium tour apparently sell quite quickly. We ended up taking the 11:30 a.m. tour, even though we were there at 10:00 a.m. for the first scheduled tour. This meant that the kids got a little restless, of course, but it wasn’t too bad. We spent some time in the Packers Pro Shop, checked out the view of the atrium from the second floor, and got to visit with Grandma and Grandpa. No major incidents = happy mom and dad.

Our single disappointment was that we weren’t able to find a table in Curly’s Pub, which meant we went downstairs for lunch. The food wasn’t bad but wasn’t terribly impressive, either, though I’m told that that pizza was quite good. Unfortunately, I missed out on the leftovers, too!

The day ended with – get ready to be shocked and surprised – a quick hop over to Storheim’s Frozen Custard. If you are ever in the Green Bay area you simply must visit them (unless you are lactose intolerant and/or cannot stand the thought of frozen custard). Since we’d just finished eating lunch I got a shake, but Michelle and the girls all got sundaes. Grandma and Grandpa shared what I wish I could have had, the daily special: Raspberry Limone Cheesecake.

Next time, we’re going when there’s grass on the field. And taking a lot more pictures.
